Nothing left to the imagination.
There are few encounters underwater quite like having a manta ray pass directly overhead.
The Full Monta catches a magnificent male from the angle he probably wasn't expecting to be photographed — his pale underbelly completely exposed as those enormous wings carry him effortlessly through the blue.
And he's brought company.
Black trevally slip alongside him while a substantial remora has settled into the most intimate of positions, tucked close beneath his gills and apparently quite comfortable letting the manta do all the work.
But it is the perspective that makes this photograph.
From above, a manta is unmistakably graceful. From below, he becomes something altogether more revealing: the sweep of his cephalic lobes, the muscular geometry of his body, the extraordinary span of his wings — and, in this particular gentleman's case, confirmation that The Full Monta isn't merely a clever name.
Powerful. Intimate. Slightly cheeky.
Sometimes the ocean gives you the perfect angle.
And sometimes it gives you the Full Monta.
